interactive drawing on top of a JPane?

I've built myself a little xyplot tool based upon
your examples.  sgt is a fine package.

After reading the javadoc on JPane, and paying attention to
the section "MouseEvents" I am still not quite sure how I
should do the following:

      draw a horizontal line across the plot (no zooming,
      no selection) and then move that line up and down
      as the mouse moves.
I'll bet I could figure this out, but I will be grateful
if you could give me a couple of tips, and save me some 
sleuthing around.
