NdEdit User Interface
Adding Isobath and Coastline Overlays
to the Latitude/Longitude Cut Panel

To aid in data selection, coastlines and/or bathymetry can be added to the latitude/longitude cut panel. In the latitude/longitude panel, click the Map Options button to display the map overlay dialog:

Isobath List: This scrolling list shows a list of "built-in" isobath files as well as any custom isobaths that have been added to NdEdit's bathymetry directory. (See notes on adding custom isobaths and coastlines). To select an isobath for plotting, check the box next to the isobath value. To check all the isobaths in the list, click the Check All button. To remove all isobath selections (and return an isobath to it's default color), click the Check None button.

Setting Isobath Colors: The color of individual isobaths can be specified by clicking in the color swatch next to the isobath value. This will display a standard color picker dialog where you can specify a color in different ways (swatch, RGB, or HSB). NdEdit has three convenience buttons that assign colors to the selected isobaths from pre-selected color palettes. Clicking the green-purple, grayscale, or rainbow (red-purple) color ramp buttons will assign colors just to the selected isobaths. The greater the number of isobaths the more gradual the transitions between colors. In the above illustration, the green-purple color ramp was applied to only 5 isobaths so the color transitions between isobaths is fairly dramatic.

Selecting a Coastline: NdEdit comes with a built-in "medium" resolution coastline. It is useful for basin-scale browsing but is pretty crude when you map area is less than 5 square degrees. However, NdEdit can be extended with your own higher-resolution coastline data. (See notes on adding custom isobaths and coastlines).

Notes on Adding Custom Bathymetry and Coastlines

Custom bathymetry and coastlines can currently only be added to NdEdit by the programmer. Contact the NdEdit developer for more information.
