NdEdit User Interface
Graphical Filters

Along the upper and right edges of the cut panel graph are small rectangular controls (we call them handles) that are used to adjust the filtering in a particular dimension. When you first use NdEdit, the handles will cover the entire range of the cut panel's axes so in effect there is no filterin. The outer handles (upper and lower on the y-axis) control the minimum and maximum values of the filter range. The center handle translates the filter range along the axis--that is, it changes both the minimum and the maximum values while keeping the difference between them constant. When you drag the outer handles, the filter range is adjusted symetrically around the center of the range. To change filtering. drag any of the handles to new values on the axis. The values of the current filter are displayed in the Filter Range text fields below the cut panel. Note: Filtering in a particular dimension will only change cut panels that don't share that dimension. For example, filtering by time will not change the cut panels with time as an axis(latitude/time, longitude/time, depth/time) but will filter the view in the latitude/longitude, depth/longitude, and depth/latitude cut panels. Other features of the NdEdit filters:

  • The filter handles are linked in that changing the range of the time handles in one view will change the range of the time handles in other time axis views.
  • You can also position a filter handle by clicking the axis outside of the handles. The closest handle will be postioned to where you clicked. The other handles will be moved to be consistent with this new position.

The filter ranges can be changed by manipulating the handles as described above or manually by typing values into the Filter Range text fields. Note: the text describing positions and times can be time consuming to edit depending upon the format in which they are displayed. You can either change the format of the fields (described below) or right click on the field to bring up point-and-click value editors. The editors for the various axes are shown here:
