The CDP Wizard Interface

The CDP client is designed as a wizard so each step of the data selection process is represented by a unique user interface panel. The Wizard does have features that are common to each step as shown in the following image:

Menubar: The menubar contains application specific menus and commands:

File Menu:
Add Local Data: Incorporate metadata from your desktop machine or local area network into data retrieved from the CDP server. "Local" data files must be in EPIC pointer file format.

Print: Print a plot window

Exit: Quit CDP client

Edit Menu:

LDAP Server Options: Opens a dialog to set preferences for the CDP's LDAP server. Note: these settings are for advanced users.

Preferences: Opens a dialog to modify general preferences for the CDP client application. These settings control how many files are downloaded from the CDP server and whether downloaded files are viewed as list or in CDP's graphical station browser, NdEdit. More Information on Preferences

Windows Menu:

Messages: Displays a separate "console" window for viewing text messages sent from the CDP server to the client. This is used primarily to "watch" the conversation between the client and the server.

Help Menu:

Using: Displays web pages describing the use of the CDP client.

System Properties: Displays a window of Java arcana mostly of interest to the CDP programmers.

About: Displays the version number and credits for the CDP client software.

Toolbar: The toolbar contains convenience buttons for opening a local data file or printing a plot.

Wizard Step Tabs: These tabs show the sequence of wizard steps from left to right. Tabs will be dimmed if the steps prior to that tab have not been completed. You may use these tabs, when enabled, to navigate to other completed steps in the data search process.

Navigation Buttons: Next moves the search process to the next wizard panel and Previous goes to the previous wizard panel. The Next button may dimmed (unavailable) if you have not fully configured the current panel.

Options Buttons: These buttons become available after a measured variable has been selected in the Variable panel. Plot produces a graphic of the chosen variable in a separate window. Export writes an EPIC pointer file of the stations retrieved from the CDP server.

Utility Buttons: The Reset CDP button returns the CDP client to its original state and displays the Search Directory panel.
